The International Criminal Court urged its member states to resist sanctions imposed by US President Donald Trump. ICC asserted that Trump's actions were an effort to undermine its independent and unbiased judicial functions.
[00:00:36] Trump imposed sanctions on ICC, criticizing its alleged illegitimate and baseless investigations against the US and Israel. The curbs include imposing asset freezes in travel bans on ICC officials, employees and their families, as well as anyone assisting the court's investigations. The latest round of protests in Bangladesh has led to widespread destruction. The U.S.
[00:01:04] Agitators attacked and set fire to the homes of Awami League leaders and defaced murals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the nation's founding father, across various districts. The unrest began following a live address by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Several homes, including that of Sheikh Salim, were torched and cars were set on fire. A fire broke out at the Iskand camp in Mahakumb, Nagar and Nutar Pradesh.
[00:01:32] It spread to over a dozen nearby camps. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The fire was reported at 10.35 a.m. and around a dozen firefighters were deployed to the scene. Chief Fire Officer Pramod Sharma confirmed that the blaze was fully contained within 30 minutes. The fire caused significant damage and officials are investigating its cause.
[00:01:55] Iskand's camp in sector 18 was separate from their large community kitchen camp in sector 19, which had previously attracted attention during the event. The Congress, Shiv Sena, UBT and NCPSP raised concerns over alleged irregularities in Maharashtra's water lists. They claimed that 39 lakh of waters were added between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.
[00:02:22] During a joint press conference, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi argued that the added waters in Maharashtra were equivalent to the population of a state like Imarjal Pradesh. He urged the election commission to release the water lists and clarify the matter. Gandhi claimed that the majority of new waters seemed to favour the BJP, while opposition parties maintained their vote share.
[00:02:47] In a major shock, Kerala Finance Minister K. Nbala Gopal increased the land tax by a staggering 50% in the Kerala Budget 2025. This is expected to bring in additional income of Rs 100 crore for the state. A slew of projects have been announced for Kallam and Kannur districts represented by Balagopal and Chief Minister Pinarayvijin, respectively. Lease amount for state-owned land has also been increased.
[00:03:13] The minister also announced an increase in court fees, stating that it is expected to bring in additional revenue of Rs 150 crore. In the transport sector, taxes on electric vehicles and contract carriage vehicles have been increased, estimated to generate an additional Rs 15 crore. However, taxes on state-carriage vehicles have been reduced by 10%. That brings us to the end of this episode.
