After hours of delay, the Gaza ceasefire finally came into effect on Sunday. This followed Hamas releasing the names of the first three Israeli hostages, said to be freed, marking a pause in the 15-month old war that has caused immense devastation and seismic political shifts in the Middle East.
[00:00:36] Israel announced that the truce with Hamas began in Gaza at 11.15 a.m. local time. This was nearly three hours later than initially scheduled, due to a last-minute delay ordered by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israeli air strikes and artillery attacks killed 13 Palestinians between 6.30 GMT when the ceasefire was meant to begin, and 9.15 GMT when attacks were took effect, Palestinian medics said. Hamas attributed the delay to technical reasons, the complexities of the field situation and continued Israeli bombings.
[00:01:07] The centre will meet with Punjab's protesting farmers on February 14 in Chandigarh to discuss their demands. This will resort the deadlock over restarting talks with the protesters who have been insisting on illegal assurance for the minimum support price of crops. Following the announcement of the proposed meeting, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dhalewal, whose fast unto death, entered the 54th day on Saturday, agreed to take medical aid. The breakthrough came after a delegation from the Union Agriculture Ministry led by Joint Secretary Priya Ranjan held discussions.
[00:01:37] The meeting included representatives from the Sammikta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mastur Morcha. The Mumbai police have arrested Mohamed Shariful Islam Shahzad, a Bangladeshi national. He had changed his name to Vijay Das and was apprehended in connection with the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The incident occurred at Khan's Mumbai home during a wargulity attempt. Four days after the incident, the police apprehended the accused from the Hiranandani estate on Khod Bandar Road, neighbouring Thana district.
[00:02:05] The accused has been staying in and around Mumbai working for a house cleaning agency for the past few months. IIT Madras director V. Kamakoti has come in for severe flack for praising cow urine's medicinal value. In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Kamakoti is seen endorsing the antibacterial, antifungal and digestive properties of cow urine and said it is useful for conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and batted for consideration of its medicinal value.
[00:02:35] He hailed the medicinal values of cow urine at an event held at Gosamrakshana Sala in Chennai. More than a year after, four people lost their lives. In a stampede during an annual tech festival at Cochin University of Science and Technology in Kerala, the police submitted the chart sheet at the judicial first-class magistrate court Kalamashiri on Saturday. The chart sheet names Deepak Kumar Sahu, then principal of the School of Engineering, to sat two faculties Girish Kumar and Thambi and N. Biju, as the three accused in the case.
[00:03:05] They have been charged with causing death by negligence. The stampede happened on No. 25, 2023 for a musical concert by singer Nikita Gandhi in the open-air auditorium with a capacity of 1,000 to 1,500 people. The request at students Atul Thambi, Sarah Thomas and Anne Rifta Roy and Alvin, an electrician from Palakar, died in the stampede. That brings us to the end of this episode.
