Election Commission directs Centre to halt 'Viksit Bharat Sampark' bulk messaging | March 21, 2024

[00:00:26] The Supreme Court has directed Tamil Nadu Governor Arun Ravi to re-indicate DMK leader K.

[00:01:00] apex court order. Kerala's Directorate of Health Services has withdrawn the controversial circular which barred health employees from creating content on social media.

[00:01:13] Supreme Court opted not to stay the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners Act. The act excludes the Chief Justice of India from this election panel appointing Election Commissioners.

[00:01:28] Classical dancer Kalamandalam Sadhivamas, color-tinged cast-ace rumak believed to be directed at dancer Arun Ravi Ramakrishna created huge controversy with netizens and political parties criticizing the veteran dancer.

[00:01:45] Ramakrishna said he would initiate legal action. Let's get into the details.

[00:01:51] The Election Commission on Thursday directed the center to immediately halt sending bulk WhatsApp messages under the Wixib Parade Sambarq.

[00:02:03] The center was sending the messages to highlight the government's initiators. The commission issued the direction to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology after it received complaints about the matter.

[00:02:17] The move is part of a series of decisions taken by the Commission to ensure a level playing field, the Commission said.

[00:02:24] It has also sought a compliance report on the matter from the Ministry. The Ministry had informed the Commission that the messages along with a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi were sent before the model-hond of conduct came into force on March 16th.

[00:02:40] The Supreme Court voiced serious concern over the contact of Tamil Nadu Governor Arun Ravi on Thursday.

[00:02:49] The court made the statement citing his refusal to re-induct senior DMK leader K. Pund Modi as a minister in the state cabinet despite a Supreme Court order.

[00:03:00] The court on Thursday directed him to decide the issue within 24 hours.

[00:03:05] It said Ravi was defying the Supreme Court. Pund Modi's conviction and a three-year sentence in a disproportionate assets case was stayed by the Apex court recently.

[00:03:16] The bench, also comprising justices J.B. Paradewala and Manaj Misra, told Attorney General R. Venkata Ramani that they are seriously concerned about the contact of the Governor.

[00:03:28] We did not want to say it out loud in court, but he is defying the Supreme Court of India. Those who have advised him have not advised him properly.

[00:03:37] Now the Governor has to be informed that when the Supreme Court stays a conviction, it stays a conviction.

[00:03:46] K.Las directorate of Health Services, aka DHS, has withdrawn the controversial circular barring health employees from creating content for social media.

[00:03:57] The new notice says the circular was withdrawn for administrative reasons. The DHS had issued a circular prohibiting government employees in the health sector from making posts or starting channels on social media platforms.

[00:04:12] The circular dated March 13 was released following requests from government officials seeking approvals to engage on social media while adhering to the core of conduct.

[00:04:23] The circular emphasized that allowing government officials from health sector to use social media could lead to court of conduct violations and interfere with their official duties.

[00:04:36] The Supreme Court has opted not to stay the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners Act 2023, which excludes the Chief Justice of India from the selection panel appointing election commissioners.

[00:04:50] A bench comprising Justice's Sanjeev Kanna and Deepankar Dutta heard rich petitions challenging the constitutionality of various provisions of the Act.

[00:05:00] These petitions filed by Congress leader Jayat Harkoor, the Association for Democratic Reforms and others questioned the legitimacy of the Act's amendments particularly the exclusion of the Chief Justice of India from the selection panel.

[00:05:15] Senior Mohiniyatam dancer Kalamantalam Sattvibhama came under attack from various sections of society including politicians and cultural organizations for her racist remarks against dancer Dr. R. L. B. Ramakrishna during an interview with the YouTube channel.

[00:05:34] Ramakrishna, the brother of the late actor Kalabhurn Mani, threatened to initiate legal action against her.

[00:05:41] As a remarks created in an uproar in Kerala society, Sattvibhama denied that her words were against Ramakrishna.

[00:05:49] She said she did not name anyone specifically in the interview.

[00:05:53] In the interview, Sattvibhama was heard saying that the person who performs Mohiniyatam should be a Mohini or an enchanting lady.

[00:06:02] He has the color of a crow. This is an out form that requires a stance that keeps the legs wider apart.

[00:06:08] There is nothing more repulsive than a man who performs with his legs wider apart in this manner, she said.

[00:06:16] She also said that men can perform a Mohiniyatam recital only if they are extremely good looking and remarked that Ramakrishna's looks aren't suited for the dance.

[00:06:25] The video, which went viral on Thursday, was severely criticized by many cutting across political lines.

[00:06:32] State ministers are Bindu and Vina George and leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, V.D. Sattation condemned this statement.
