[00:00:34] Delhi Court extended Chief Minister Irwin Kejriwal's judicial custody in the excise policy case

[00:00:47] take part in a counter offensive against Iran and option Netanyahu's war cabinet

[00:01:27] Donald Trump became the first former president to face a criminal trial on Monday when jury
[00:01:31] selection began in Manhattan in a case involving Hush Money paid to pawn star Stormy Daniels
[00:01:36] with the US election looming in less than 7 months as he seeks a return to the White
[00:01:40] House.
[00:01:41] Trump has three other criminal cases that are bogged down by legal wrangling and
[00:01:44] may not occur before the election in which he is a Republican candidate challenging
[00:01:49] Democratic President Joe Biden.
[00:01:51] Two of the other cases concern his attempts to overturn his 2020 election defeat and one
[00:01:55] involves his retention of classified documents after leaving office in 2021.
[00:02:00] He is accused of falsifying records to cover up a $130,000 payment he arranged to be made
[00:02:06] by his then lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen to Daniels in the waning days of the 2016
[00:02:11] presidential campaign to buy her silence about a 2006 sexual encounter she has
[00:02:16] said she had had with him at a Lake Tahoe hotel.
[00:02:19] Trump has denied any such relationship, a conviction would not prevent Trump from running for or
[00:02:23] taking office.
[00:02:24] A delhi court on Monday extended till April 23rd judicial custody of Chief Minister
[00:02:31] Adwin Kejriwal in a money-launching case linked to the alleged excise scam.
[00:02:35] The enforcement directorate sought extension of Kejriwal's custody by 14 days saying
[00:02:39] the investigation was at a crucial stage.
[00:02:42] The judge extended custody noting that the judicial custody of some of the co-accused persons
[00:02:46] in the case including BR's leader Keca Vida is ending on that date.
[00:02:51] The court had on April 1st sent Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15th in the case.
[00:02:55] The enforcement directorate has accused the Ahmadmi Party leader of being involved
[00:02:59] in the entire conspiracy of delhi liquor scam in drafting and implementation of the
[00:03:03] policy for favoring and benefiting from the quid pro, receiving kickbacks and eventually
[00:03:08] using part of proceeds of crime generated out of the scheduled offense in the campaign for
[00:03:12] Goa assembly elections.
[00:03:16] US President Joe Biden warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the US will not take part
[00:03:21] in a counter-defensive against Iran and option Netanyahu's war cabinet favors after a mass
[00:03:26] drone and missile attack on Israeli territory according to officials.
[00:03:29] The threat of open warfare erupting between the arched Middle East force and dragging
[00:03:33] in the United States put the region on edge, triggering calls to restrain from
[00:03:37] global powers and Arab nations.
[00:03:39] The Middle East is on the brink.
[00:03:41] The people of the region are confronting a real danger of a devastating full-scale conflict.

[00:03:47] United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres told a Security Council meeting called on
[00:03:52] Sunday in response to the strikes.
[00:03:54] Biden told Netanyahu the US would not participate in any Israeli counter-defensive against Iran
[00:03:58] over the attack, a White House official said.
[00:04:01] Iran launched the attack over an Israeli strike on its embassy compound in Syria
[00:04:05] on April 1 that killed top revolutionary guards commanders and followed months of clashes between
[00:04:10] Israel and Iran's regional allies triggered by the war in Gaza.
[00:04:13] However, the attack by more than 300 missiles and drones caused only modest damage in
[00:04:18] Israel.
[00:04:19] Most were shot down by Israel's iron dome defense system and with help from the
[00:04:23] US, Britain, France and Jordan.
[00:04:27] The Indian meteorological department said on Monday India is likely to receive
[00:04:31] above average monsoon rainfall in 2024 in a potential boost for the country which depends
[00:04:35] heavily on the summer rains for its farm output.
[00:04:38] The lifeblood of India's economy delivers nearly 70% of the rain needed to water crops
[00:04:43] and re-charge reservoirs and aquifers with nearly half of its farmland without any
[00:04:47] irrigation depending on the June-September rains to grow a number of crops.
[00:04:52] The monsoon which usually arrives over the southern tip of Kerala around June
[00:04:55] 1st and Dittries in mid-September is expected to total 106% of the long-term
[00:05:00] average this year, said M. Revachandran, Secretary in the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
[00:05:04] India badly needs good monsoon rains as below normal rainfall in 2023 depleted
[00:05:09] reservoir levels and hit food production.
[00:05:12] The government responded by imposing curbs and exports of sugar, rice, onions and wheat.
[00:05:17] Resuming exports depend on how quickly protection recovers in 2024 which is not
[00:05:21] possible without good monsoon rainfall.
[00:05:23] IMD Chief Mritin Jay Mohapatra said El Nino was weakening and it would enter a
[00:05:28] neutral stage by the time the monsoon sets in.
[00:05:30] La Nina, which increases rainfall in India would then set in by August, he added.
[00:05:37] A day after the BJP released its election manifesto with a slew of promises,
[00:05:40] Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that what was witnessed in the
[00:05:43] last decade of NDA rule was merely a trailer, asserting more was yet to
[00:05:48] be done for Kerala and the nation's progress and solicited the support
[00:05:51] of the southern state for the BJP-led alliance in the Lok Sabha polls.
[00:05:55] Addressing an election meeting organised by the NDA at Kundam Kulamin Trishur,
[00:05:58] Modi also attacked Rahul Gandhi who was presently in Kerala to campaign for the
[00:06:02] Lok Sabha polls, accusing the Congress leader of being unable to protect his
[00:06:06] family's seat in Uttar Pradesh and being silent on the Kharivnur Bank's scam.
[00:06:10] He said it would be a year of progress in Kerala and referred to the various
[00:06:13] promises and development programs mentioned in the BJP's manifesto called
[00:06:17] Modi Ki Guarantee that was released on Sunday.
[00:06:20] He also criticized the Congress over the support offered to it by the
[00:06:23] Social Democratic Party of India, the political arm of the banned popular
[00:06:26] friend of India for the Lok Sabha elections.
[00:06:29] Modi claimed that it was he who initiated an enforcement directorate probe
[00:06:32] into the Kharivnur Bank's scam and now he was taking legal advice on how
[00:06:36] the money of the depositors could be returned from the amount seized by
[00:06:39] the agencies.
[00:06:40] Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched the second phase of his
[00:06:43] Lok Sabha poll campaign by attacking the BJP analysis, saying India did not
[00:06:47] get the freedom from the British only to be colonised by the ideology of the
[00:06:51] Sankh Parivar.
[00:06:52] He said the BJP and Prime Minister Modi see only one nation, one language
[00:06:56] and one leader and this is a fundamental misunderstanding of our country.
[00:07:00] While addressing party workers and voters in Mayanad, the MP also
[00:07:03] exuded confidence that the grand old party would come back to power
[00:07:06] both in the state and at the centre.
