Canada reverses extra screening for India-bound travellers | Top News of Nov 22, 2024

[00:00:20] Canada has reversed its decision to implement additional screening procedures for travellers flying to India just days after introducing the measure out of an abundance of caution.

[00:00:31] The Supreme Court on Friday observed the 1976 amendment to the constitution adding term socialist, secular and integrity to the preamble underwent judicial reviews and it cannot say whatever Parliament did during their emergency period was all nullity.

[00:01:31] Canada has withdrawn its standard operating procedures for additional screening of travellers flying to India just days after the measure was introduced out of an abundance of caution.

[00:01:41] The updated guidelines clarify that passengers travelling to India will no longer be subjected to the extra screening measures.

[00:01:48] This decision comes against the backdrop of strained relations between India and Canada.

[00:01:53] Earlier, Canada's Transport Minister Anita Anand has stated that the temporary additional security screening measures could result in minor delays for passengers.

[00:02:02] India's relationship with Canada has significantly worsened, with India consistently voicing serious concerns over extremism, violence and anti-India activities in Canada.

[00:02:12] India has urged Canadian authorities to take decisive action to address these issues.

[00:02:17] The Supreme Court on Friday noted that the 1970s amendment to the constitution which added the term socialist, secular and integrity to the preamble has undergone judicial reviews.

[00:02:28] It stated that it cannot declare everything Parliament did due to their muncie period as null and void.

[00:02:33] A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar has served its verdict on multiple pleas challenging the inclusion of the words socialist and secular in the preamble.

[00:02:43] These pleas were filed by former Rajasubha MP Subramanian Swami, Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain and others.

[00:02:49] The words socialist, secular and integrity were inserted into the preamble to the constitution under the 42nd constitution amendment moved by the Indira Gandhi government in 1976.

[00:03:00] The amendment changed the description of India in the preamble from a sovereign democratic republic to a sovereign socialist secular democratic republic.

[00:03:09] Ten Maoists were killed during an encounter with security forces in Chhattiskar's Konta region.

[00:03:16] Superintendent of Police Kiran Chawan confirmed that the firefight began early Friday morning in the Peji area.

[00:03:21] The District Reserve Guard launched the operation after receiving intelligence that Naksalites were infiltrating Chhattiskar through Odisha.

[00:03:28] Speaking on the operation, Chief Minister Vishnu Diyosai said that his government is working on the policy of zero tolerance towards Naksalism.

[00:03:35] He also said that ensuring development, peace and security of citizens in Bastar is the top priority of his government.

[00:03:41] He said that the era of peace, development and progress has returned to Bastar.

[00:03:47] The Supreme Court on Friday said it would consider on No. 25th whether or not to ease the anti-pollution Grap 4 restrictions in Delhi NCR keeping in view the drop in air quality index levels.

[00:03:57] A bench of justices are Pais Oka and Agustin George Mussey expressed displeasure over the poor implementation of Grap 4 restrictions,

[00:04:05] especially related to restricting entry of trucks carrying non-essential goods into Delhi.

[00:04:10] First implemented in 2017, the Graded Response Action Plan was set of anti-air pollution measures followed in the capital and its vicinity according to the severity of the situation.

[00:04:21] In a surprising development, the woman actor who filed a sexual assault case against seven people including actors Mukesh and Jaya Surya withdrew her complaint.

[00:04:31] The accused also include Manim Pilar Raju, Erevela Babu, production executives Noble and Vichu and producer advocate B.S. Chandrashagaran.

[00:04:38] The complainant stated that she was withdrawing the case due to a lack of investigation the Poxo case registered against her and the cyberbullying she faced.

[00:04:46] Police had filed charges including offences under Poxo Act based on a complaint from the actor's female relative in Muwattapura.

[00:04:53] According to the FIR, the accused allegedly made the complainant a sex slave and presented her to a group in Chennai before she reached puberty.
