[00:00:09] Hello, this is your daily dose of news from Onmanorama. I am your host Swati Ajad and this is a special episode of Daily News Dose on the Delhi elections. The Delhi Assembly elections marked another big win for the Bharatiya Janda Party continuing its recent success in state polls. After victories in Maharashtra, Haryana and Odisha last year, the BJP has now unseated the Abh Madhuni Party in the national capital with a decisive lead.

[00:00:36] At the time of this recording, BJP had secured 47 seats and was preparing to form the government. AAP, which won 62 seats in the last election, was reduced to just 23. This marks BJP's return to power in Delhi after 26 years. According to ESA data, the BJP secured a vote share of 45.88%, while AAP and Congress received 43.58% and 6.37% respectively.

[00:01:03] Congress was wiped out, failing to win a single seat. Key AAP leaders, including former CM Arvind Kajriwal and former deputy CM Manish Sosodia, lost their seats, while incumbent CM Atishi Marlena barely held on. Delhi recorded a 60.54% voter turnout in the February 5th polls. AAP, which dominated the capital since 2015, now faces a major setback, while Congress remained seatless for the third straight election.

[00:01:29] Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed BJP's landslide win in the Delhi polls, calling it a victory for development and good governance. In a post on X, he thanked voters for the historic victory and promised all-around development for Delhi. We will leave no stone unturned to improve lives and ensure Delhi plays a key role in building a developed India, he wrote. Meanwhile, AAP chief Arvind Kajriwal considered defeat in a brief video statement.

[00:01:55] The results of the Delhi election were declared today and we accept the people's verdict. The people's decision is paramount. I congratulate the BJP on its victory and hope it lives up to the hopes and expectations of those who have given them a majority, he said. In other news, police in Punjab and Haryana have registered cases against travel agents accused of duping illegal Indian immigrants who were deported from the US two days ago.

[00:02:23] A fire broke out early Saturday at the under-construction Sabramadhi bullet train station in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, an official said. A federal judge has blocked Elon Musk's team from accessing US Treasury Department records containing sensitive personal data, including social security and bank account numbers of millions of Americans.
