[00:00:09] Hello, this is your Daily Dose of News from Onmanorama. I'm your host Vishnu and these are the major news stories of Sunday, Dec 15, 2024.
[00:00:19] The Aam Admi Party released its final list of 38 candidates for the Assembly polls due in February, fielding party supremo Advin Kijriwal from New Delhi besides repeating Chief Minister Aatishi from Kalkaji.
[00:00:31] Kijriwal took a swipe at the BJP alleging that the Safran Party has no Chief Ministerial face.
[00:00:37] The BJP, which is yet to announce its candidates, is reportedly planning to pitch Parvesh Verma, son of former Delhi Chief Minister late Saheb Singh Verma, against Kijriwal in New Delhi.
[00:00:47] The Congress, meanwhile, has announced 21 candidates including Sandeep Dixit, son of ex-Chief Minister late Sheila Dixit, who will challenge Kijriwal in New Delhi.
[00:00:57] Kijriwal has on multiple occasions rolled out any alliance with Congress despite both parties being part of the India bloc.
[00:01:04] Bangaluru Police arrested Nikita Singh Hanya, her mother Nisha Singh Hanya and brother Anurag Singh Hanya in connection with the suicide of tech executive Atul Subhash.
[00:01:13] While Nikita was picked up from Haryana, Nisha and Anurag were nabbed from Prayag Raj in Uttar Pradesh.
[00:01:18] They were sent to 14 days judicial custody.
[00:01:20] A senior official from Prayag Raj police on Sunday claimed that the Bangaluru police did not inform them about the arrest of Nisha Singh Hanya and Anurag Singh Hanya.
[00:01:29] Subhash was found hanging from his house in Southeast Bangaluru on December 9.
[00:01:33] He left behind lengthy videos and notes blaming his wife and in-laws for driving him to commit suicide through false cases and persistent torture.
[00:01:42] Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the Centre and the Chhattisgarh government were committed to eradicating the menace of Naxalism from the state before March 31, 2026.
[00:01:52] When Chhattisgarh becomes free of Naxalism, the entire country will get rid of the menace, Shah said, addressing the President's Polis Kala Award function at the Polis Parade ground in Raipur.
[00:02:02] Shah also hailed the Chhattisgarh government's rehabilitation policy for Naxalites and appealed to them to quit violence and join the mainstream.
[00:02:10] Kerala Finance Minister K. N. Balagobal criticised the Union government for demanding payment for disaster relief and rescue operations conducted by the Indian Air Force during the Vainad landslides, which claimed 231 lives.
[00:02:21] He described the move as adding chilli to the wounds of the state already burdened by the aftermath of the disaster.
[00:02:28] Balagobal accused the BJP rule centre of failing to provide even the funds it had promised to the state for disaster relief.
[00:02:33] He said this was akin to mocking the people of the state.
[00:02:37] Twin century makers Travis Head and Steve Smith put on a fourth-wicket partnership of 241 as Australia reached 405 for 7 at stumps on the second day of the third test against India on Sunday.
[00:02:49] Head scored a magnificent 152 and Smith a gritty 101 at the Gabba in Brisbane to put Australia into a strong position to go 2-1 up in the five test series.
[00:02:59] With rain forecast over the next three days, India seemed to have virtually no chance of winning the match and can only realistically hope for a draw.
[00:03:08] That brings us to the end of this episode. Thanks for listening to Daily News Jaws hosted and produced by me Vishnu Muriladharin.
