Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday directed security forces to ensure free movement of people on all roads in Manipur from March 8. Sharing a meeting where the security situation of Manipur was reviewed, the Home Minister said that strict action should be taken against those creating obstructions on the roads.
[00:00:36] This was the first such meeting held after the imposition of President's rule in the Northeastern state, which has been witnessing ethnic violence since May 2023. Over 250 people have lost their lives in the violence. The President's rule was imposed in Manipur on 13 February after N. Biren Singh resigned as Chief Minister. [00:01:29] US President Donald Trump lashed out at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday during a tense exchange in the Oval Office, accusing him of being not ready for peace with Russia. Trump also downplayed the significance of their crucial meeting. Zelensky left the White House abruptly, failing to secure a mineral steel that was seen as a key step toward a US broker truce. The fallout from their clash has raised fresh concerns about Ukraine's ability to hold off Russia's invasion. Meanwhile, European leaders moved quickly to reaffirm the support for Kiev.
[00:02:00] US told Zelensky that without US assistance, Ukraine would have already fallen to Russia, asserting that the wartime leader was in no position to negotiate. At least four workers lost their lives after being trapped under an avalanche in the high altitude village of Mana in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district. The avalanche struck on Friday, burying 55 workers from the Border Roads organization. Rescuers managed to extricate 50 workers from the snow while the search for the remaining five is still underway.
[00:02:28] The avalanche struck the Border Roads organization camp between 5.30am and 6.00am on Friday, burying workers inside eight containers and a shed, according to the army. Since then, rescue teams have been battling harsh conditions, treacherous terrain, blinding snowfall and freezing temperatures, in a desperate race against time to save those trapped. 45 students and two teachers from the College of Engineering, Trikkaripur, are stranded near Manali after landslides triggered by snowfall and rain blocked NH3.
[00:02:58] Their bus has been struck in traffic on the Manali-Kulu Road near the Green Tax Barrier. Manali stole plaza for out-of-state vehicles since 8pm on Friday, April 28th, said Anupiwi, the assistant professor accompanying the group. According to government officials, landslides blocked around 583 roads, including five highways, across Himachal Pradesh on Friday. The group, comprising 23 female and 20 male third-year computer science B.T.C. students, along with their teachers, Neha Vivi and Anupiwi, began their college trip on 21st February.
[00:03:27] They travelled by train to Delhi and then hired a bus to explore Himachal Pradesh. A class-10 student who suffered severe head injuries in a clash near a private tuition centre in Kerala's court record has succumbed to his injuries, police said. Mohamed Shahabas, who had been undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of Code Code Medical College Hospital, passed away around 1am on Saturday. He was on ventilator support, according to hospital sources.
[00:03:52] Five students have been taken into custody in connection with the incident and police have confirmed that murder charges will be invoked against them. They will be presented before the Juvenile Justice Board. The altercation reportedly stemmed from a dispute during a farewell party at a tuition centre in Tamarsheri on 23rd February.
