The Congress on Sunday said the parliament should pass a law to enable reservations to exceed the 50% cap, a day after NDA constituent JDU demanded that the quota increase in B Harbhi included in the ninth schedule of the constitution.

[00:01:35] The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sarksha Adhiniyam will replace the British-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act respectively. The new laws will bring in a modern justice system incorporating provisions such as zero

[00:01:51] FIR, online registration of police complaints, summonses through electronic modes such as SMS and mandatory videography of crime scenes for all heinous crimes. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who piloted the laws, said the new laws would give

[00:02:04] priority to providing justice unlike the British-era laws that gave primacy to penal action. These laws are made by Indians, for Indians and by an Indian parliament and marks the end of colonial criminal justice laws, he said.

[00:02:17] Shah also said the laws were not just about changing the nomenclature but bringing about a complete overhaul. According to the new laws, judgment in criminal cases has to come within 45 days of completion of trial and charges must be framed within 60 days of first hearing.

[00:02:32] Statement of rape victims will be recorded by a female police officer in presence of a guardian or relative and medical reports have to come within seven days. Organized crimes and acts of terrorism have been defined, sedition has been replaced

In a political resolution passed at the meet, the JDU urged the BJP-led centre to put the state's law under the Constitution's ninth schedule to rule out its judicial review.

In her complaint, Mittal alleged that on the night of June 18th, Mohamed Farid, alias Aurangazeb, barged into her house and tried to molest her before looting valuables.

[00:04:27] She claimed that when her family members chased Farid, he lost balance, fell from the stairs and later died of the injuries, a police official said. However, the complaint filed by the deceased family almost two weeks ago claimed that
