#073 – Is this just the beginning for the Indian Stock Markets? | Aashish Somaiyaa & Govind Agarwal

In this episode, we discuss the Indian Capital Markets and investing with Aashish Somaiyaa (CEO, White Oak Capital Management) and Govind Agarwal (Public Markets Investor). India has seen a record number of retail investors enter the markets this year; around 3.4 million new DEMAT accounts were opened in the September quarter, according to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) data, which included 1.3 million accounts in September alone.   Aashish and Govind begin the discussion with the evolution of the Indian investor over the generations and describe those who invested in equities this year, while also covering some fundamentals of personal finance. We then discuss mutual funds, the role of fund managers, and emerging asset classes like bitcoin.   We move on to the hazard of mis-selling of financial products, how SEBI is trying to protect retail investors, how we can increase financialization in India without increasing systemic risks, and the role of fintechs. Finally, Aashish and Govind end with their view on the markets right now and we can look forward to in the future.   This is an insightful conversation for those looking to understand more about the markets and investing.
