Follow the steps in the video and download the Retirement Planner from this link: https://bit.ly/RetirementPlanningSheet
I recently watched a podcast where wealth manager Sandeep Jethwani was asked a simple question: if I'm 40 and spend roughly ₹2 lakh a month, what retirement corpus do I need at 60? His answer dropped like a bomb - ₹40 crore. The clip went viral, and the internet did what it does best: mocked it. But Sandeep isn't a content creator chasing reactions. He has spent 17 years in wealth management, founded a SEBI-registered firm managing thousands of crores, and sits on SEBI working groups. So if he says ₹40 crore, he isn't saying it in a vacuum. In this video, I get inside that number - why he assumed 9% inflation instead of the government's 6%, and whether that assumption actually holds up against the real cost of urban healthcare, education and lifestyle today.
Then we open up Excel and stress-test the whole thing ourselves, building a proper retirement model that accounts for asset allocation, taxes, and the crucial fact that your corpus stays invested and keeps growing even after you retire. I show how a 25-year-old investing just ₹10,000 a month - growing it 5% a year - can comfortably last a lifetime, and why someone starting at 40 might need ₹2.5 lakh a month to reach the same place. The honest conclusion: it may not be ₹40 crore, but ₹30–35 crore is still very real if your inflation is high. So I close with the only strategy that actually works depending on where you are in life - why those earning under ₹50,000 must focus on growing income, not just investing, and why higher earners must hold their investment percentage steady as their salary climbs.
