About the film / What inspired us:
"Street libraries have been deeply rooted in Marathi culture for decades. However, time and again it is has only been men who have knowingly or unknowingly dominated these spaces. How often do we see girls playing on the sports grounds? Or when was the last time you saw a bunch of women enjoying tea at a tea stall? Women's access to public places has been limited. Keeping in mind this reality, we took it upon ourselves to make women and girls aware of this and enable them to change this. We started a campaign in which women could claim their right to the city and could without inhibitions enjoy their time in public places. The campaign was a great success and resulted in several women confidently occupying street libraries and letting the men know that it is their city too! This short film is to share that journey with every citizen.
