In FY26, TCS laid off around 8,000 people in one of the largest layoff exercises in its history.
And in the same financial year, India’s top five IT services companies, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCLTech and Tech Mahindra, saw their combined workforce shrink again!
Their combined headcount fell by 7,389.
But what was even more surprising is that, less than a year later the same CEO of TCS On 12 July this year, the CEO of TCS, the same company, the same year, stood up and said he is building a team of 8,900 engineers for one specific kind of work.
Then Eleven days later, Infosys says 6,000 of these engineers.
and Then Wipro announced 1,500 more.
And the most shocking part is, most IT companies in India offer 3 to 4 lakhs as entry salaries, but now suddenly, the starting salary of these people has shot up by 7 times to ₹18 to ₹25 lakh a year with
Senior people are being paid ₹50 to ₹85 lakh.
So the same companies in the same year are Firing people at the bottom, and paying seven times more people at the top.
And this is the same job that CIA is hired to catch Osama bin laden and now, google microsoft, anthropic and even Open AI are hiring for these special type of engineers!!
