Now, something has shifted.
The Indian government has openly signalled intent to bring Formula One back, with officials discussing removal of the same tax and regulatory barriers that killed the race in the first place. This is not nostalgia bait. This is structural change. And that matters.
India today is not the India of 2011. The ecosystem is louder, deeper, and far more plugged in. MotoGP is back. Formula E has raced in multiple cities. National championships are thriving. Fan screenings are packed. Merchandise sells. Drive to Survive built habit. Sim racing is exploding. And F1’s own data puts India at roughly 79 million fans.
That is not a “future market”. That is a current one.
As Soumil explains in this clip, demand already exists. What’s missing is alignment. Government policy. Promoter confidence. Calendar stability. When demand and supply finally meet, F1 doesn’t come back as a novelty. It comes back because it makes sense.
