Sedemac’s ₹4000 Cr Rise, Innovaccer’s $3B Round & More Secondaries | Decoding Exits | August Edition

August 2025 Secondary Digest: Sedemac's ₹4000 Cr Deep-Tech Success

In this month’s “Decoding Exits” series, Karthik unpacks a month filled with significant secondary transactions. Leading the pack is Sedemac - a company that slipped through our fingers in 2011 when its ₹50 crore valuation exceeded our investment threshold. Today, Iron Pillar secured a notable exit from this deep-tech powerhouse at a ₹4000+ crore valuation. An anti-portfolio of sorts for us!

Here are last month’s deal insights:

Deep-Tech Excellence at Scale: Sedemac, an IIT-Bombay SINE incubator success story, saw Iron Pillar exit to two public market long-term holders at a ₹4000+ Cr valuation. The company's indigenous IP in powertrain controls has driven rapid growth from ₹2500 Cr to ₹4000+ Cr in just 18 months, positioning them for an IPO. (Fun Fact: Shashikanth, the founder has a unique tradition where he throws a party every time an investor exits.)

Global Healthcare Innovation: Innovacer raised a $275M round at a $3B valuation, with 35% in secondary allowing Lightspeed's exit. Kaiser Permanente and B Capital led the investment in this healthcare SaaS company that relocated to the US a decade ago and has since scaled to $250-300M in ARR.

Domestic PE Power Play: Vistaar Financial's ₹1360 Cr round saw domestic giants Motilal Oswal and abcImpact acquire Warburg's ₹490 Cr stake. Much like how DIIs are replacing FIIs in public markets, this deal showcases domestic PE firms confidently stepping in where global investors exit, marking a new chapter in India's MSME lending space.

Contract Research Champion: In a pre-IPO positioning move, Aragen's promoter entity, Ready Investment Trust, sold a 2.5% stake for ₹300 Cr to Avendus Future Leaders Fund III and SBI Life Insurance. This secondary sale, valuing the company at ₹12000 Cr, represents strong institutional backing for India's contract research capabilities
