“Why am I sitting at a computer making someone else rich?”

That question led Rajeev Samant from the corporate corridors of Silicon Valley to a patch of grassland in Nashik.

Back then, his father was about to sell five acres for ₹30,000 an acre — a fair deal in the 90s. But standing there, Rajeev saw something no one else did. The light, the soil, the air — it reminded him of California’s wine country.

He told his father, “Don’t sell it. I want to do something here.”

That moment became the seed of Sula Vineyards, which went on to shape India’s wine culture and put Nashik on the global map.

In this episode of The Blume Podcast, Rajeev Samant joins Karthik Reddy to share how a gut call turned into one of India’s most enduring consumer stories.
