Across Kutch, Bastar, Champa and Telangana, our mini-documentary series Kaarigari took us into the lives of the artisans who continue to preserve India's extraordinary craft heritage with quiet resilience, unwavering dedication, and generations of inherited skill.
We met a family in Bhuj where the rhythm of the loom has endured for eleven generations through the intricate art of Extra Weft weaving. We witnessed the 4,000-year-old Dokra craft of Bastar, where clay, fire and brass come together through the ancient lost-wax process. We followed the journey of Kosala silk in Champa, where forest-grown cocoons are transformed into handwoven textiles of remarkable beauty. And in Telangana, we saw the century-old tradition of offering the season's first Gadwal saree to the temple before it reaches the world beyond.
From every loom and every furnace to every thread and every motif, each story reminded us that preserving a craft is never just about protecting a tradition. It is about standing with the people who keep it alive, so that what has endured for centuries can continue to inspire generations to come.
